Panthers gather with the Wakarusa community for an annual summer tradition featuring fall team introductions, student-athlete remarks, music and fellowship. WAKARUSA, Ind. — NorthWood Athletics officially introduced its 2026 fall programs to the community Thursday evening during the annual Wakarusa Ice Cream Social, bringing student-athletes, coaches, families and community members together for one of the traditional celebrations marking the approach of a new school year. Following several hours of rain, a cool and comfortable summer evening provided an ideal setting for the event. The annual gathering once again gave the Wa-Nee community an opportunity to meet the Panthers who will represent NorthWood throughout the fall while celebrating the connection between the school and the communities it serves. The Red Regiment and NorthWood Cheer opened the program by leading those in attendance in the NorthWood fight song before each of the Panthers' fall programs took its turn being introduced. It incorporated a new twist and electric cheer performance that will be a sight to see on the sideline on Friday Nights. Director Zach Peycha introduced the Red Regiment, followed by Cheer and head coach Lisa Avedician. NorthWood athletic trainer Paul Widner had his staff present, with seniors Molly and KayLee speaking on behalf of the group. The evening continued with introductions from Girls Golf and head coach Jordan Anglemyer, Boys Cross Country and head coach Justin Bell, Girls Cross Country and head coach Austin Hamsher, Unified Flag Football, Boys Soccer and head coach Kyle Dijkstra, Girls Soccer, Boys Tennis and head coach Tif Schwartz, Girls Volleyball and head coach Hilary Laidig, and Football and head coach Nate Andrews. One of the highlights of the evening was the opportunity for NorthWood's student-athletes to speak for their programs. In many cases, seniors stepped forward to introduce themselves, recognize their teammates and share their perspective on the season ahead. One highlight was Senior Bridget Parvu-Timmer representing not just Girls Cross Country, but also Unified Flag Football during its introduction. She did a great job illustrating the impact Unified Athletics has on our student body. Seniors throughout the evening demonstrated the leadership expected of those preparing for their final fall season at NorthWood. It also should be mentioned that Boys Soccer/Cross Country Senior Ben Bodach is still searching for the his pink sparkly fanny pack... if you know, you know :) The night also provided an introduction to the Football team's 2026 Shirt. After closing remarks, the Red Regiment provided the musical finale before the evening transitioned to ice cream, shirt sales and a social hour. NorthWood Athletics extends its appreciation to the Wakarusa Chamber of Commerce, Brock Rose and Billie Roeder for their organization, leadership and continued work in making the annual Ice Cream Social possible. The evening served as another reminder that the beginning of an athletic season extends beyond practices and competitions. It is an opportunity for student-athletes to represent their school, connect with the people who support them and begin another year together. With the introductions complete, NorthWood's fall student-athletes now turn their attention toward the 2026 season and the opportunities ahead.
