The final team score did not tell the complete story Thursday night as NorthWood Boys Tennis battled Goshen across the lineup before falling 5–0 in Northern Lakes Conference action. The Panthers pushed the RedHawks in several competitive matches, including a three-set battle at No. 1 doubles and closely contested opening sets at No. 1 and No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles. At No. 1 doubles, seniors Eli Heckathorn and Ethan Tompos gave NorthWood its strongest push of the evening. The Panther duo captured the opening set 6–4 against Tristen Keiser and Holden Ebright Zehr before Goshen responded to take the final two sets, 6–2, 6–1. Junior Jack Johnson battled Andrew Hughes at No. 3 singles, narrowly dropping the opening set 7–5 before Hughes secured the match with a 6–1 second set. At No. 2 doubles, senior Sebastian Chapman and junior Colton Ewers also stayed within striking distance throughout the opening set before falling to Jody Miller and Aiden Saner, 7–5, 6–3. Senior Nolan Tompos competed at No. 1 singles, falling to Logan Beck 6–4, 6–1, while sophomore Carter Rose dropped the No. 2 singles match to Logan Yoder Rupp, 6–1, 6–1. The loss moves NorthWood to 4–6 overall and 2–2 in the NLC. Junior Varsity Goshen also earned a 5–3 victory in junior varsity competition, dropping NorthWood to 5–2–1 overall and 2–1 in conference play. The Panthers picked up singles victories from Jackson Kemp and Sawyer Love. Kemp won 5–4 (4), 4–0 at No. 2 singles, while Love turned in a convincing 4–0, 4–0 victory at No. 4 singles. NorthWood’s third victory came at No. 3 doubles, where Jackson Kemp and Nerick Sanchez earned a 4–0, 5–3 win. The JV lineup also produced a pair of matches decided by third-set tiebreakers. Brody Freeland battled to a 4–5 (5), 4–1, 7–10 result at No. 3 singles, while Brinkley Parvu-Timmer and Robbie Yoder pushed their No. 4 doubles match to the limit before falling 5–3, 3–5, 8–10. Up Next NorthWood returns to the courts Friday night at home for Senior Night, as the Panthers recognize the senior members of the Boys Tennis program before their next match.
